Call 2023 for Solo and Group Exhibitions

The Kranj Foto Fest is excited to announce its Open Call for Exhibitions 2023 on the theme of HUMAN — NATURE. We seek visually powerful and thought-provoking stories that showcase the relationship between humanity and the environment.

Whether you are a professional photographer, an emerging talent, or an amateur enthusiast, this open call is your chance to have your work seen by a global audience and to contribute to a larger conversation about the interplay between humans and nature. Submissions can include documentary photography, fine art photography, and any other form of contemporary photography that explores the theme in a meaningful and impactful way.

The jury will select ONE WINNER who will receive a 1000 EUR cash prize and have a solo exhibition in Kranj, Slovenia, at the program of Kranj Foto Fest 2023 (from August 23rd to September 23rd 2023), and will shortlist a number of photographers for group exhibitions all around the picturesque alpine town of Kranj.

For a whole month, at the warm height of European summer, the old town of Kranj will once again be transformed into an exciting hub of contemporary photography bringing together emerging and established photographers from all over the world. The city becomes an open-air gallery with photo exhibitions happening in the streets, at historic landmarks, in art centres, galleries, forests and by the river.

Submit your work and get the chance to be part of this experience at the international festival of contemporary photography Kranj Foto Fest. By exhibiting at the festival, you’ll get an amazing opportunity to show your work to a qualified audience consisting of art critics, curators, photo editors, gallery owners and publishers from Slovenia and abroad.

We welcome submissions from photographers of all levels and backgrounds, and we look forward to seeing the diverse and imaginative ways that the theme of HUMAN — NATURE will be explored through photography.

The submission to this Open Call is free of charge. Applications must be sent to the email info@kranjfotofest.org by 30th March 2023. Only series (not single images) will be accepted.

HUMAN — NATURE

We expect to see photo stories referring to the relationship and interplay between humans and the environment, from documentary photography showing the impact and the consequences of human actions on nature and the ways in which nature affects humanity to a more contemporary, conceptual and imaginative language, exploring the relationship between humans and nature.

This Open Call seeks to understand the ways in which photographers have approached Human — Nature and to explore the relationship between human experience and the natural world in photographic practice.

It is an opportunity for photographers and visual storytellers to share their perspectives on the theme, and to contribute to a larger conversation about the relationship between humans and nature. The contest will also consider the ways in which these photographers depict issues such as environmental degradation, sustainability, and the impact of human activities on the environment.
