Workshop with Giulietta Palumbo (Magnum Photos) & Laurence Cornet (Le Monde / Dysturb)

From France to the Opening Week of Kranj Foto Fest 2025 — a one-day workshop with two leading voices in photography

“Make Your Project a Reality”

Giulietta Palumbo, Editorial Director at Magnum Photos, and Laurence Cornet, Deputy Director of Photography at Le Monde, are coming to Kranj for the Opening Week of Kranj Foto Fest 2025. On August 28th, they will lead a one-day workshop focused on helping participants bring their projects to life.

The workshop will explore different forms of storytelling in an editorial context. Participants will receive a toolkit for reporting, curating stories, and working with photo editors.

Whatever stage your project is at, the mentors will help you push it forward — whether it’s finding missing angles, editing and sequencing, or preparing a pitch for editors or galleries.

“Through concrete examples of recent reportages and of multiple visual languages, we will discuss the means to construct one’s own narrative while reporting on personal stories as well as on assignments.”— Palumbo & Cornet

Conceived as a participative and convivial one-day experience, the workshop will also help the participants think about what makes a story, how to document in a nuanced way, how to navigate challenges or respond to difficulties on the field, based on their ongoing projects, voices and visual languages. With the workshop being held as a group, everyone will benefit from the group’s eye over one’s work.

The workshop will close with a small improvised exhibition showcasing each participant’s project, open to festival visitors, a great opportunity to present your work and meet new audiences. This will be a special occasion, as on the same evening we’ll be celebrating the Opening of Kranj Foto Fest 2025, and participants are warmly invited to join the party and continue mingling over a glass of wine.

Fee Transparency Policy
Kranj Foto Fest does not retain any portion of the fees from the workshops we offer. The participation fee goes entirely toward covering essential costs: mentors’ fees, travel, accommodation (for mentors from abroad), meals, coordination, translation, design, and promotion. We believe that a shared, modest contribution from each participant is the only sustainable way to run our educational program and bring international experts to Kranj—so that photographers can access these opportunities.

This year, our educational program also included a fully funded, five-month mentorship for emerging Slovenian photographers. They didn’t have to pay any participation fee and are now presenting their work in a festival exhibition, also fully covered by Kranj Foto Fest and our partners.

We see education as a vital pillar for nurturing the photography community in our town and across Slovenia, and we warmly encourage and invite Slovenian photographers to apply. Welcome!
