Crossing boundaries between fact & fiction<\/span><\/h1>

The new photographic era has changed our perception of \u201cdocumentary\u201d giving rise to the new concept of \u201cpost-documentary\u201d where reality and fiction do not contradict each other, but rather support each other.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Nowadays, photographers often use various visual techniques or even staged elements to talk about important social, political, or personal subjects. However, if we look back in history, we will discover that similar approaches to documentary have already been exercised by some of the most respected documentary photographers such as Robert Capa, long before it was regarded as an acceptable approach.<\/span><\/p>

In this masterclass, which has a partnership with Leica<\/strong>, students will learn about various approaches to contemporary documentary and the possibility of crossing boundaries with staged or artistic interpretation in photographic storytelling through open discussions, practical assignments, readings, and slide presentations about photographers working in these intersecting genres.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In addition, during in-class demonstration and hands-on practice as well as home assignments, students will learn useful techniques in managing lighting when shooting on locations (out of the studio). They will learn how to create an atmosphere using minimal portable equipment as well as non-professional lights available at the subject\u2019s home\/environment.<\/span><\/p>

An overview of the basic principles of color theory in art and photography as well as an understanding of how to use color as a visual tool to create a particular psychological or physiological impact will also be part of the lectures.<\/span><\/p>

Viktoria Sorochinski is an artist-photographer with Ukrainian roots and a multicultural background, currently based in Berlin, Germany. Since completing her Master of Fine Arts degree at New York University in 2008, Sorochinski had over 80 exhibitions in 23 countries throughout Europe, North and South America and Asia. Her work is published and reviewed in over 95 international publications including her monograph \u201cAnna & Eve\u201d published in Germany by Peperoni Books in 2013. She is also a winner and a finalist of nearly 50 international awards, fellowships and grants among which are,\u00a0<\/span>Arnold Newman Prize<\/span><\/a>,<\/span>\u00a0Leica Oskar Barnack Award<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Lucie Award (Discovery of the Year)<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>LensCulture Exposure Award<\/span><\/a>\/<\/span>Emerging Talent<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Award, Critics Choice Award, Magenta Flash Forward, PDN Photo Annual, J.M.Cameron Award, Voies Off Arles Award<\/span>,<\/span><\/i> BluePrint Fellowship and Canada Council for the Arts Grant.<\/span><\/p>

In addition to Sorochinski\u2019s pursuit of an artistic career, she is also curating international exhibitions, giving lectures, workshops and talks in various institutions worldwide, as well as private coaching\/consulting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Viktoria Sorochinski\u2019s is an author of multiple long-term projects, that are dwelling between documentary and fiction testing the boundaries of Real vs. Fantasy.
